30 fellowships for the 4th International School of Science Journalism & Communication

The theme of the 4^th edition of the International School of Science Journalism & Communication 2013 is Brain imaging and cognitive neuroscience. It will take place between May 26 to May 28 at Ettore Majorana Foundation and Centre for Scientific Culture in Erice (Sicily, Italy).

The School is based on lectures, working sessions and other activities held by international experts that will present the state-of-the-art of Cognitive Neuroscience, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and other frontier topics, while science journalists will work out the challenges from their perspective.

Students Internship in Sanofi Pasteur MSD Health Policy Department, Lyon – France

Sanofi Pasteur MSD a joint venture between Sanofi Pasteur, the vaccine division of Sanofi, and Merck (known as MSD outside the US and Canada), is offering an internship opportunity in its Health Policy Department for Europe located in Lyon (France).

The internship could be 3 months or 6 months, starting on March/April 2013, and the salary is 1200€/month.

Main duties: Better understand the civil society actors and propose innovative partnerships in Western Europe.

Neurospaces guanya la Beca Phonos-KiiCS

.L‘Observatori de la Comunicació Científica i la Fundació Phonos van obrir el passat mes de setembre una convocatòria per a atorgar una beca a de creació per a un projecte artístic de producció musical vinculat amb la tecnologia i la neurociència per a joves creadors.

La beca ha estat atorgada al projecte Neurospaces de Timothy Schmele i consisteix en la realització d’una composició espaial basada en l’activitat cerebral.  Per dur a terme aquesta idea l’artista farà servir enregistraments amb fMRI (Imatge per Resonància Magnètica Funcional) i efectes espaials d’àudio (àudio 3D) per tal d’assignar les regions del cervell a la seva posició corresponent en l’espai físic.

Beca de producció musical que vincula tecnologia i neurociència per a joves creadors

.L‘Observatori de la Comunicació Científica i la Fundació Phonos obren una convocatòria per a projectes artístics de producció musical vinculada amb tecnologia i neurociència.

La beca de creació té l’objectiu de promoure la producció experimental musical (música electroacústica, mixta, electrònica…) amb l’ajut de sistemes informàtics de generació de sons i incorporant elements propis de la neurologia i la percepció sensorial.

Oberta la convocatòria de beques d’investigació sobre bioètica

.La Fundació Víctor Grífols i Lucas ha obert la XIV convocatòria de beques per dur a terme quatre projectes d’investigació amb la finalitat d’incentivar l’estudi en el camp de la Bioètica.

Hi ha quatre beques amb una dotació econòmica de 5.000€ cadascuna i es poden presentar projectes tant de manera individual com en equip.

24 fellowships for August 2012 at the International School of Science Journalism & Communication

.The third course of the International School of Science Journalism & Communication 2012 is about Nanotechnologies and will take place in Ettore Majorana Foundation and Centre for Scientific Culture at Erice (Italy) in August 1 to 4, 2012.

There are 24 fellowships for EU science journalists, science communicators and master students, that cover the fee of the school, travel expenses to and from Erice and the stay en Erice.

Call for PhD candidates for a free 2-day training event in JHC2012

.The University of Lorraine (Nancy, France) is inviting 100 budding researchers, all PhD students whatever their discipline and nationality, to take part in a two-day training event called Knowing how to disseminate research and to assist at the International Conference on Science Communication – Journées Hubert Curien that will take place in Nancy from September 2 to 7.

Fully-funded 3-year PhD studentship in science communication

.The Open University, one of the UK’s leading research institutions, is offering a fully-funded three-year PhD studentship in the field of science communication, specifically to study the promotion of the Large Hadron Collider at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN).

The project will explore and evaluate communication associated with the start-up of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) over a six-year period, including communication produced by media professionals and citizen scientists. It is envisaged that the research undertaken within this studentship will contribute to debates about digital scholarship, public engagement and science communication, making valuable contributions to these related fields in terms of both theory and practice.

Beques Knight de periodisme científic del MIT

Les beques Knight de periodisme científic al Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT), originades al 1983, ofereixen a periodistes experimentats l’oportunitat d’ampliar els seus coneixements en el camp del periodisme científic.

Aquestes beques accepten anualment de 10 a 12 periodistes per a realitzar un curs de nou mesos amb l’objectiu d’incrementar la seva comprensió de la ciència, la tecnologia, la medicina i el medi ambient.

Science journalism internship in Nature News (Washington DC)

The editorial branch of the international journal of science Nature is currently accepting applications for a 6-month science journalism internship based in Washington DC. Under the guidance of US and UK editors, the successful applicant will report and write stories for the print edition of Nature as well as for the Nature News website and news blog.
