Fully-funded 3-year PhD studentship in science communication

.The Open University, one of the UK’s leading research institutions, is offering a fully-funded three-year PhD studentship in the field of science communication, specifically to study the promotion of the Large Hadron Collider at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN).

The project will explore and evaluate communication associated with the start-up of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) over a six-year period, including communication produced by media professionals and citizen scientists. It is envisaged that the research undertaken within this studentship will contribute to debates about digital scholarship, public engagement and science communication, making valuable contributions to these related fields in terms of both theory and practice.

The closing date for the applications is 24 February 2012 and applicants should be available to start the studentship on or before 1 June 2012.

.Scientific American is currently accepting applications for its spring editorial internships based in New York. The interns will be involved in the editorial process and will conduct research and fact checking as assigned. Primary duties may also include writing news stories and blog posts.
Requirements:

  • Have completed one year in a graduate program in journalism or have equivalent work experience in journalism.
  • Strong understanding of science news and current issues in science, technology and health is required.
