A Bio-Fiction Festival about synthetic biology in Vienna

The Museum of Natural History in Vienna will hold the first Bio-Fictionfestival on May 13-14, 2011.
The program will include interactive science talks, artistic interventions and an award ceremony showing the best short films about synthetic biology.
Bio:Fiction is an international short fiction, documentary and animation film competiton on FictionScience, and Synthetic Biology.

This is an interesting article that highlights some of the challenges synthetic biologists are facing. I think the article also makes the important point that scientists in this field, and others of this nature, are pioneers. In the article, Luis Serano, a systems biologist at the Centre for Genomic Regulation here in Barcelona says: “We are still like the Wright Brothers, putting pieces of wood and paper together.”
